A Gio Ponti Tribute At Modus Miami

Timed to coincide with the city’s annual Art Basel and Design Miami events, Gio Ponti Inspires, which included a window art installation based on Ponti’s drawings, showcased decidedly inspiring Ponti furniture styles from the 1950′s, recently reissued by Italian furnishings manufacturer Molteni & C.

Integrated in the dazzling restricted edition pieces on exhibit—based on archival Ponti prototypes, and recreated in collaboration with his heirs—were a stunningly graphic collection of objects: wood and brass-footed chest of drawers hand painted metal table with clear crystal tabletop and the undeniable pièce de résistance, a brass-framed armchair, made in 1953, and upholstered in lustrous dotted fabric by exalted Venetian textile home Rubelli.

Framed against Modus Miami’s refined, elegantly appointed new showroom, the exhibit was a worthy reminder of the glamor—and enduring modernity—of Gio Ponti’s masterful eye.
